Why My Amulet Stopped Working (and the Spell I Cast to Wake It Up Again)

This isn’t something I often talk about outside our circle, but since many of you have asked how to care for your talismans, I thought I’d share a little of my own experience.
I work at Witches Moon. I help package your orders, write the spell cards, and bless the moon water we use in our oils. Magic isn’t just part of the job, it’s part of who I am. And yet, even with all that, I forgot something very simple and very important.
Your amulets need you. Not just your skin, not just your warmth. They need your attention.
Mine was a silver crescent moon on a silk cord. Nothing flashy. Quiet magic. But when I first wore it, it felt like I had stepped into alignment with something ancient and knowing.
My rituals flowed. Strangers opened up to me. Dreams came vivid and full of signs. The world felt like it was listening.
Until it wasn’t.

The change was gradual. No spark, no warning. Just silence. The dreams faded. The magic dulled. The pendant, once warm against my chest, turned cold and still.
I assumed it was me. That I’d lost the thread. That maybe the spell had run its course. So I stopped wearing it. Set it aside in a little bowl by the window, half-buried in dried herbs and dust. And quietly, the magic in my life seemed to shrink.
Weeks passed before I felt called to find it again. I untangled it from a pouch of forgotten bits, the silver dull, the cord stiff. I held it in my palm and realised it hadn’t stopped being magic. I had just stopped feeding it.
So I made time. Just a little.
It was a waxing moon. I waited for quiet. Lit three candles. One white for clarity. One silver for connection. One black for protection. I placed the amulet in a small circle of salt and herbs. Mugwort, thyme, rosemary. Nothing elaborate. Just what I had on hand.
I breathed onto the charm. Just once. Then I said,
I call you back to me. I remember what you are. Let your silver shine again. Let your magic meet mine.
There was no flash of light, no great revelation. But I felt something stir. A soft flicker of warmth. As if the amulet exhaled.
Now I wear it again. Not just because it works, but because I remember that magic is relationship. You have to meet it halfway. You have to tend it, the same way you tend a fire, or a garden, or a friendship.
If your amulet has gone quiet, it does not mean it is empty. It may only be waiting for you to come back to it.

✦ A Spell to Call It Home
Light a silver or white candle. Place your amulet in a circle of salt, herbs, or moon water. Whisper something true and full of purpose. Wear it for three nights. And thank it when it stirs again.
Magic does not vanish. It waits. Sometimes all it needs is your voice to remember its name.
🌙 With love and a little silver moonlight, One of us at Witches Moon
